Creative Video Editing films

It's hard to explain the feelings you have as a professional pilot when you find out a plane has crashed. Your first reaction is what happened and what can we do as pilots to prevent it from happening in the future. On 9/11/01 when I watched the horror unfold on the TODAY show, my initial reaction was of shock. I said to myself, "I can't believe on such a beautiful day that a pilot could have made such a grave mistake to hit the world trade center." I said "that pilot must have had a heart attack or the wind blew that airplane into the tower!" The moment I watched on live TV when United flight 175 crashed into the south tower is when I realized that my profession and my country were under attack.

The events of 9/11 were horrific but as an airline pilot, I would not allow it to deter me from the job I loved. The days following the attacks, I was glued to the television just like everyone else in our country following every news channel there was. I was praying that people survived and then I was wondering what my profession was going to be like when I returned. Would there be new security procedures? Would we ever get the planes booked again? Is the airline business ever going to recover?

My first day back in the Newark terminal had mixed emotions. I was nervous to be flying again after these attacks but I had an extreme amount of pride to be a part of a small community of people who would make a difference. I said to myself "Our profession lost 4 professional crews (both pilots and flight attendants) to this attack and we will never forget." During that first day back to work, I spent the morning at the airport greeting our passengers along with other co-workers and thanking them for flying. We applauded them for having the courage to join us today and we shook each passengers hand as they passed. Some had tears in their eyes, others thanked us for supporting them but it was no doubt one of the most emotional days for me following the 9/11 attacks.

That afternoon, while preparing for our first flight after the attacks, we checked every compartment, every seat back, every panel and every open space in that aircraft for any foreign materials (knives, guns, etc..). We greeted every passenger (all 2 of them on my first flight back) for weeks after the attacks, looked each one in the eyes, shook their hands and welcomed them aboard our aircraft. We took short trips through our cabins before push back to see if anyone looked suspicious and we took every unusual event in the cabin a bit more seriously. It was a time of heightened security but it was also a time of extreme pride for myself and other pilots to help this country return to flying. We would not let them win.

It's been 10 years and 10 anniversaries since 9/11/01 and while most pilots have flown through September 11th many times, this day is different. To me, this day 10 years later is another day of pride. Just like the days, weeks and years following the attacks, the pilots flying for US airlines will take to the skies today to fly their schedule. Some will be flying the very flights that were attacked 10 years ago. Some, like me, will be flying out of Newark Airport (the originating airport for United Flight 93) and some of our pilots will be attending memorials to remember the people who were killed on 9/11/01. It's my guess that all US airline pilots will take a moment to remember our brothers and sisters who were lost to a deadly hijacking tomorrow in their own special way.

For me, I'll be flying from Newark to LA today. I have an extreme amount of pride to be able to fly to LAX 10 years later because 3 of the 4 flights hijacked on 9/11/01 were destined from the east coast (Boston and Dulles) to LAX (United Flight 175, American Flight 77 and American Flight 11) and United flight 93 originated in Newark destined for San Francisco. All 4 flights were large transport commercial airliners from the east coast to the west coast of the United States. On a normal day, flying to the west coast is a beautiful experience from the flight deck. You fly from NYC over the midwest, you approach the awe inspiring Rockies, the deserts of the west and the mountains of California before reaching the Pacific Ocean. The scenery is beautiful each and every time I fly it and seeing landmarks like the grand canyon never gets old.

For those of you who are remembering 9/11 today, thank you. My fellow crew and I will never forget the day that changed our profession and the lives of countless people but I can assure anyone reading this today that we will never forget. We will continue to fly our aircraft with pride while remembering those who came before us. I for one am proud to be an American today and will do my small part to continue to help our country recover. My flight today is dedicated to the lives lost on 9/11 and especially the flight crews of

United 93 - The seven crew members were Captain Jason Dahl, First Officer LeRoy Homer, Jr., and flight attendants Lorraine Bay, Sandra Bradshaw, Wanda Green, CeeCee Lyles, and Deborah Welsh.

United 175 - The nine crew members included pilot Victor Saracini, First Officer Michael Horrocks, and flight attendants Robert Fangman, Amy Jarret, Amy King, Kathryn Laborie, Alfred Marchand, Michael Tarrou, and Alicia Titus.

American 77 - The flight crew included pilot Charles Burlingame, First Officer David Charlebois, and flight attendants Michele Heidenberger, Jennifer Lewis, Kenneth Lewis, and Renee May.

American 11 - The 11 crew members included pilot John Ogonowski, First Officer Thomas McGuinness, and flight attendants Barbara Arestegui, Jeffrey Collman, Sara Low, Karen Martin, Kathleen Nicosia, Betty Ong, Jean Roger, Dianne Snyder, and Madeline Sweeney.

The Today Show Steadicam!

Many years ago, Creative Video Editing Films started using the steadicam/glidecam thanks in part to the teachings of Dave Williams from Cinemacake Films in Philadelphia. Ever since, we have helped raise the bar for wedding films with our filming techniques/ideas along side many wonderful videographers in and around the Northeast.

We absolutely love the steadicam while filming because it adds production value that you cannot obtain from just any old shoulder mounted camera or a tripod on wheels. The steadicam is basically a device that allows the cameraman to have freedom of movement from a track or tripod. It gives the cameraman the ability to do practically anything with a camera and the camera movements remain smooth and steady. This device is used in most, if not all, TV shows, movies, sitcoms, etc.. It has become the standard fluid camera movement in popular shows such as American Idol and Dancing with the Stars too.

One of the most amazing shots that can be obtained from a steadicam device is the ONE take filming of a scene. For example, the TV show ER (now off the air) used to have up to 10-12 minute SINGLE SHOTS (meaning ONE SCENE up to 12 minutes long shot with a steadicam). These single shot scenes would have to be choreographed and practiced because if someone flubbed a line or missed a cue, the entire shot would have to be re-done from the beginning, even if it was the very last line in a 12 minute shot!

Well this week, the Today Show on NBC in NYC had some fun with a steadicam and choreographed a fun SINGLE SHOT scene with many Today Show employees to the Black Eyed Peas Song "I Got a Feeling". A classic example of what can be done with a steadicam!

Colonia athlete triumphs over cancer

WOODBRIDGE — Tim Gigl made it through the finish line on Sunday but he's still not done.
The 25-year-old Colonia resident competed for the first time in the 10th Nautica New York City Triathlon, something the former youth soccer coach never imagined he'd ever be able to do seven years ago when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma.

After the cancer diagnosis, Gigl put his studies on hold at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. He lost his hair, suffered through debilitating cancer treatments, and had to walk with crutches after doctors removed a part of his femur. "The doctors had faith I would make a full recovery in terms of my health, but in terms of my athletic ability, that was up in air. At the time, I didn't care," he recalled.

Gigl beat the cancer in 2003 and his since regained much of his athletic ability. He completed his history degree in 2007, is now working at a fitness and wellness center in Scotch Plains, and spends his free time writing. About a year ago his friend Brian Burkert, who has competed in the triathlon, invited Gigl and another friend, Howard McCallen, to compete as a relay team in the swimming, biking and running races. After training for months, Gigl and his Team Survivor placed 19th, finishing in 2 hours, 51 minutes and 30 seconds. Now he's finishing a novel based on some of the people he met during his years in treatment.

"My biggest concern was to be normal again. To do the things I enjoyed before treatment. . . and getting back into the shape I was in pre-cancer," he said. Some of the young people he met while in treatment inspired him to start writing his novel when he was a senior in college.

"At first, when I was in that hospital, I was thinking, "Why me? This is not fair.' All my friends were out having the time of their lives, partying, having all the freedom, and here I was in a hospital bed," he recalled. "But sitting next to a 3-year-old kid (battling cancer), I thought, here is a 3-year-old with no idea what he's facing. That puts things into perspective."

During treatment he befriended 16-year-old cancer patient named Dan who helped Gigl get involved with support groups. While Gigl recovered completely, Dan relapsed and passed away soon after. "It's a sad story to tell. He was someone I looked forward to spending a lot time with. It's not the prettiest image to remember."

In writing "Yellow Ribbon Pirates," Gigl wanted to focus on people's courageous battles against debilitating illness. The story is narrated by a 20-year-old who, after being diagnosed with cancer, becomes friends with another patient, a 4-year-old boy. The narrator helps his young friend imagine a pirate adventure that becomes a metaphor for their treatment and a "cathartic process for the narrator."

"Unfortunately, passing away from cancer is not always the most dignified way to go. But characters in the story die in heroic fashion, in a blaze of glory. It's how he wants to remember them." The characters are fiction but based on real life, he said.

"These are people who touched my life. I wanted to both show what happened to them and attempt to remember them in a way they deserve to be remembered."

A Good Cause - A Great Benefit!

Michelle and I recently met a couple who had a child at the same time that we had Marissa. Unfortunately, their daughter Madison suffers from Infantile Spasms. It's a medical condition that will affect her the rest of her life and the medical bills will never stop mounting for her parents.

On August 20th, you can help make a difference for these parents and have a little fun too! A Golf outing is taking place at the Farmstead Golf Club in Lafayette, NJ. For $125 per player you can play 18 holes plus have a nice dinner. If you don't golf, you can join them for dinner and drinks @ $40 per person or donations are always welcome.

One of the more popular questions these days asked by potential clients is the use of photographer cameras as video cameras. These cameras have the ability to shoot photos at 18 mega pixels and full resolution High Definition footage. The resulting HD video is beautiful but has many draw backs to using them as a professional video camera. Here are excerpts from a review written by B&H Photo/Video (the leading NY superstore on professional photo/video equipment).

"The 5D Mark II, Canon's first video-enabled DSLR, records beautiful HD footage at exactly 30 frames per second. This is great for producing direct-to-web content, but very difficult to work with on the timeline of a nonlinear editing (NLE) system. The fixed 30fps causes a host of problems. Not the least of which involves poor sound sync and incompatibility with the 29.97fps footage from other dedicated HD/SD video cameras."

One of the reasons why you see such beautiful footage online is that these cameras are perfect for direct-to-web content. However, as the review says, it's cumbersome to work with in the editing process. In order to produce custom films for a client, you must spend a large time in the editing bay. We already spend 40+ hours editing each of our wedding films and any product that adds to this time is a huge drawback.

The future of the industry is the fusion that is created between photography and videography and these cameras may very well have a place in this future but now is not the time. From photo/video storyboards to films infused with your photographers gorgeous photos, this industry is evolving quickly. When our potential clients call, they often refer to our services as a wedding video. However, our productions as far more than just a wedding video. We produce wedding films that are highly artistic and customized for each and every couple. Our films are tailored to fuse the couples personalities along with our award winning personal service. I ran across the definition of a cinematographer recently and thought it explained what we did quite well.

"Cinematographer"

"A cinematographer is one photographing with a motion picture camera (the art and science of which is known as cinematography). The title is generally equivalent to director of photography (DP), used to designate a chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image. The term cinematographer has been a point of contention for some time now; some professionals insist that it only applies when the director of photography and camera operator are the same person, although this is far from being uniformly the case. To most, cinematographer and director of photography are interchangeable terms."

A cinematographer is "responsible for achieving the artistic and technical decisions related to the image." This is exactly what we do. As a film maker for wedding and events, we are constantly looking for the artistic angle to make our films different and of a higher quality. Our technical decisions are many during any wedding day from the proper use of camera settings, proper use of audio, microphones, placement of our cameras, and much much more.

New Addition To Our Family

She was born into the world 3 weeks early at 6lbs 9oz's. Mom and baby are doing well and Marissa should be coming home very soon after paying a visit to the wonderful nurses in the special care nursery.

Connecticut newlywed alerts family about house fire

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut newlywed is credited with helping save a family from a house fire while in her wedding gown.

Officials say Georgette Clemons had just left her wedding reception Sunday evening when she spotted smoke coming from a home in Bridgeport.

Clemons told The Associated Press she got out of the car she was riding in and ran to the home, then pounded on the door to warn the occupants.

Firefighters arrived and battled the blaze after members of the Eitelberg family were rescued. Meanwhile, Clemons folded her muddied wedding dress nearby.

Clemons says she messed up her shoes. But she says it's no big deal because the people inside the burning home are safe.

Busy Weekend!

Memorial Day Weekend, for Wedding Videographers, is a lot more than BBQ's and memorial services. It tends to be one of the busiest weekends of the year for weddings. We were privileged to be a part of two very different weddings.

Michael & Ashley were married at St Patricks Cathedral in NYC and the reception was held at the Liberty House Restaurant in Liberty State Park.

Yvonne & Idris were married at the Atrium Country Club in West Orange, NJ and the reception was held in the same venue.

Both weddings were big and beautiful and both wedding movie trailers are now available at our website under film reels. We will be posting them to our blog as soon as we can.

One of the most beautiful films we produce is your Love Story that highlights your lives together. It makes a wonderful add on to any wedding film. Many couples premiere their Love Story at the rehearsal dinner or even at the reception. It also makes a great save the date film! Clients who have had Creative Video Editing films produce their Love Story many years ago have started to comment to us that their young children love watching the story of how mommy and daddy met "a long time ago." We spent Sunday filming Michael and Ashley's Love Story at the beautiful Liberty State Park. Free Places To Take Wedding Photos

But don't worry: You don't have to shell out big bucks to strike a pose. Central Jersey boasts plenty of breathtaking locations that are free and open to the public. However, photographers recommend that couples consult with public officials to find out whether they must secure a permit or make a small donation to the site.

With a permit, officials will "allot you a time frame," Alex Ruchaevsky of Abacus Wedding Studios in South Plainfield says. "They'll let you know what's going on that day. It creates efficiency in the day." Ruchaevsky says most permits run between $10 and $25.

Be forewarned: Shooting photos in public places can be time-consuming.

"Allow extra time for traffic or (for) the guy on the bike to pass," says Roberta Tubertini, who runs A Moment in Time Photography & Album Design in Flemington and Wildwood Crest with her husband, Jim. "It might frankly take a little longer in a busy public place. It's an adventure."

Photographers suggest a variety of area parks for free photos. Ruchaevsky is partial to Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick because, as he tells it, they "put a lot of resources into changing the flowers there." He also admires the variety of trees in Westfield's Mindowaskin Park, the botanical garden at Warinanco Park in Elizabeth and Roselle and the fountain, gazebo and bridges spread throughout South Plainfield's Spring Lake Park.

"Go online and research it," Ruchaevsky advises. "Look at the foliage and the flowers. Certain places might have color schemes that don't fit the color scheme of the bride."

Also, consider the time of year. Tubertini tells of a bride who chose to be photographed at the Rudolph W. van der Goot Rose Garden in Franklin's Colonial Park — in August.

"The roses weren't looking happy," she says. " . . . Half the flowers weren't in bloom."

Ruchaevsky suggests researching area historical landmarks such as the Edison Tower, as landmark grounds tend to be neatly manicured. He also recommends roaming Metuchen's downtown and hanging out at Edison's Menlo Park Diner for your wedding photo shoot.

Yes, that's right: a diner.

"Why go to a gazebo in a park when you can find interesting locations?" says Erik Kent, co-publisher of NJWedding.com. Kent says he surveyed wedding photographers, many of whom recommend choosing quirky locations.

"Consider an alley way, an old train station," says Kent, who likes the New Brunswick Train Station stairway and the gates at Old Queens, on the corner of Somerset Street and College Avenue in New Brunswick. " . . . The general gist of this is personalization. This falls into that. You don't necessarily have to have your mother's wedding photos with the dress puffed up."

Why not snap photos as you play an arcade game on the Boardwalk, Kent says, or participate in your favorite pastime. Play miniature golf; come fall, pick pumpkins.

While you're at it, feed your hungry heart.

"There's the old thing, you never eat at your wedding," Kent says, so stop for a quick bite at your favorite restaurant. He suggests visiting a haunt with "classic architecture," such as the White Rose System in Highland Park.

"Why not stop for a Fat Cat at the grease trucks" if you're a Rutgers alum, he says. "You can get a Slurpee at 7-Eleven, bring (in) something from your childhood. Something very personal and individual."

The point is, the photo shoot "doesn't necessarily have to be in an orchard," says Laura Pedrick of the Lambertville-area Laura Pedrick Photography. "They might want a hip look and have an urban background, a contrast (versus) the glamour of their gown . . . I've been on shoots where planners suggest gazebos, and the brides are mortified. They'll be shot in a diner or on the street . . . They're more adventurous and whimsical and have a sense of humor and get rid of that rigidity."

But if you do long for that pretty background, Pedrick suggests trying the streets of Lambertville, as well as the bike path. Tubertini suggests the bridge in Clinton with the iconic Red Mill looming in the background, as well as the rustic buildings of Titusville's Washington Crossing State Park or the Cooper Grist Mill in Chester. Tubertini also mentions the bridge in Stockton, which she says has the "same river view (and) beautiful background" as the Lambertville bridge, minus the crowds.

When in doubt, there's always home, sweet home.

"It's a tradition that's fallen by the way side," Ruchaevsky says. "A lot of people have nice foliage around their homes. I always recommend using what you have around you first."

Wedding Style: 9 New Wedding Trends for 2009 courtesy of TheKnot

What's hot now? Are trumpet skirts in? Will candy and dessert bars still be as popular in 2009? Here's The Knot's forecast.

Trend 1: Rustic homespun details

Outdoor weddings -- on a farm, in a vineyard, or even in the backyard -- are huge right now, and we'll continue to see a lot of them in 2009. It's really no wonder: An outdoor setting makes for a fun, laid-back vibe and the decor options are limitless. So what kinds of details are in store? Vintage vases filled with fresh-from-the-garden flowers, mismatched china in bright colors, and homemade wooden signs to direct guests. Even catering is in on the action with in-season ingredients paired with local wine.

Trend 2: Jewel tones

Say good-bye to pale pastels and bright poppies. Rich gem colors like navy, plum, and amber are going to be hot. And instead of chocolate brown, look to a soft creme brulee hue, bronzes, coppers, and black. Yes, that's right -- black is back too.

Trend 3: Patterns that pop

Gingham, checkered, polka-dotted, paisley, toile, damask -- you name it, colorful patterns are in and in a big way. Add patterned overlays to your tables to instantly perk up the room, find an off-the-rack patterned dress for your bridesmaids, and have your invitations and envelopes lined with colorful designs. The best part about this trend is that it lets you throw around a lot of different hues and still keep a cohesive look and feel.

Trend 4: Ball gowns are back

From a full A-line gown to a very over-the-top design, this silhouette will make a huge resurgence down ceremony aisles this year. And you don't have to have a ballroom wedding to pull it off either -- the key is in the fabric. Find one with layers of airy tulle or even cotton for an outdoor spring or summer wedding; get a silk satin ball gown for a more formal wedding; or go for ultra-soft suede for a wintertime wedding.

Trend 5: Two-tiered wedding cakes

While cupcakes and dessert bars have been popular for the past few years, wedding cakes are making a comeback -- but not in tall towers anymore. Now it's all about having just two tiers. Order several small cakes and put them on each table as a centerpiece, or set up a table of tiny wedding cakes mixed with desserts, cookies, pies, and more. And vintage cake toppers are in too. Find one online at a site like Etsy.com, commission one from a local artist, or borrow your parents' or grandparents' to make your cake extra-memorable.

Trend 6: New centerpiece vessels

The classic floral vase has given way to mix-and-matched clusters of vintage pitchers, vases, jars, and galvanized buckets. Other ideas: apothecary jars with colorful rocks, sand, or even candy; uniquely shaped glass vases featuring fresh fruits like raspberries and blueberries; and mason jars loaded with fresh flowers like daisies and dahlias. To throw extra color or texture into the mix, line your flower-filled vases with patterned paper or even fabric. For a wintertime fete, get knit and sweater-like coverings to line your vases and complement a cozy decor.

Trend 7: Chandeliers and creative lighting

Lighting designers are turning out impressive designs, projecting chandeliers, large trees, flowers, and even city skylines right onto the walls. When it comes to your space, hang chandeliers in different sizes, add colorful lamps and shades to the tables, line the room with strands of twinkling lights, and don't skimp on the candles.

Trend 8: The updated photo booth

Renting a photo booth has been growing in popularity over the past few years. The updated version? Entire photo sets with fabric backdrops and props. Set up a photo area at the reception that's big enough for a group shot. Drape the background with fabric and add couches, chairs, and plenty of props (think easy-to-throw-on hats and scarves). You may be able to have your photographer or an assistant man the station, or ask a trusty friend to be on hand with a digital camera.

Trend 9: US honeymoons

This year, newlyweds will prove that you don't have to travel halfway around the world to find an amazing honeymoon spot. Many will be looking to book a honeymoon right here in the US. And there's no shortage of domestic honeymoon-worthy options -- from a romantic winery in Sonoma County, California, to a hot hotel in Miami, Florida, to a cozy lodge with a stunning view in Juneau, Alaska.

Blue Tulip Stores Are Closing! Cash in your gift cards ASAP!

"This Blue Tulip bankruptcy is about to wilt hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gift cards and consumer deposits," Blumenthal said. "Nearly $400,000 worth of gift cards will soon be worthless plastic, and deposits are in danger of vanishing if consumers fail to act now.

"This bankruptcy -- and countless others -- is a sobering reminder to all gift card holders: Use it or lose it. In the state of our economy, time is money. No matter how sound the retailer, consumers must use gift cards promptly. Don't delay on outstanding deposits and cash in your credit."

The Tulip Corporation, a retailer of gifts and entertainment products, including personalized items, filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy will close all of its stores by Jan. 31. The bankrupt Blue Tulip has only agreed to honor gift cards, deposits and promotional gift cards through close of business on Jan. 31. Merchandise credits will be honored through Jan. 15.

Blue Tulip's merchandise credits, unredeemed gift cards, deposits and promotional gift cards, estimated at $388,000, may soon be worthless. The company also holds approximately $4,000 in deposits for customized goods. Consumers have only until the end of the month to pay the outstanding balance and claim their items.

New Toys

I am a really big fan of electronics, like most guys are. I love the newest technology, the newest gadgets, etc. I have always wanted a nice camera that I can learn to shoot high quality photos with. So for Christmas, Michelle bought me one!! I was so excited! Photography is an art, like Videography, and it is pretty complicated to learn too!

Just pointing and shooting pictures with any old camera is easy and generally you can get some very nice pictures. However, learning the camera well will get you amazing pictures! I have had some time to play with it and thought I should post a couple of the photos that I have taken and I really liked. I have a few more that I have not downloaded yet to show you too. I'm still learning so be easy on me!

I plan to take a couple of photography courses soon so that I can learn to take beautiful pictures of my family. I have a new found respect for wedding photographers seeing how hard it is to get those perfect and beautiful pictures myself!!

Brides Guide: Wedding Book

When we got married in October 2007, we put together a big binder of everything wedding. It helped us stay very organized. We purchased folder dividers for our binder and labeled each one the following:

Brides Needs (ie hair and makeup)
Photo/Video
Music
Florist
Caterer/Venue
Transportation
Ceremony
Reception
Rehearsal Dinner
Honeymoon
Ideas (for dress ideas, any other ideas we saw in magazines)
Other

Then every time we had correspondence or signed a contract or saw something we liked in a magazine, we put it in our binder. It actually helped us at the reception too. We had copies of everything, including our music CD's since we had a small problem arise at the reception. We asked the band to play music from a CD for our entrances and they misplaced the one we gave them a week before! No problem, we just had them use ours.

We brought the binder with us for all wedding related activities. From food tastings to picking our floral designs, etc. It was very helpful to have all the information in one place so that we can show our vendors what we were looking for.

If you decide to make up a binder, don't forget to name your wedding or have a theme. Ours was "The Castle Wedding" since we were married at Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, NY. :) We designed out invitations, programs and menus around our themed name too. Have fun with it and really enjoy the planning time. It can be very stressful but it's very rewarding when it's over. We just wish it didn't go by so quickly on the day of the wedding!

Wedding Movies

It seems Hollywood loves to make movies about weddings. From Father of The Bride to Wedding Crashers, each year they have a new and funny movie out! This year it's Bride Wars. Both my wife and I really enjoy silly humor like this so I'm sure we're going to love this movie. Being a part of the wedding industry is always a lot of fun! We get to see so much, but we never saw this before! It comes out on January 9th (tomorrow).

Synopsis:

Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson go head-to-head in Bride Wars, a romantic comedy that follows two best-friend brides who find they've scheduled their wedding dates on the same day. 13 Going on 30's Gary Winick directs the 20th Century Fox production.

If you love to dip bread in oil and vinegar, if you love to eat salad with oil and vinegar, or if you just love to cook with oil and vinegar, then you MUST take a visit to Carter & Cavero in Red Bank, NJ!

We came across this store thanks to some family members who told us the same thing. We MUST try it! So we did and we absolutely love it. They sell a huge selection of the best oil from around the world plus a huge selection of vinegars that are phenomenal! Michelle and I purchased two boxes of oil and vinegar to give as presents because we love it so much. It makes a great inexpensive gift to friends and family.

During our recent visit to the store, we sampled an olive oil that was probably the freshest in the state. The olives were picked, pressed and shipped all within the last 5 weeks. Our favorite oilive oil by far is the Nocellara Extra Virgin Oilive Oil. It's a Sicilian olive oil that is so tasty! They bottle it right in front of you, cap it off and even add a "bottled on" date to the label.

The vinegars are fabulous too. We purchased bottles of the pomegranate, strawberry, and apple vinegars among others.

They offer gift baskets for weddings and other events too. It's definitely worth checking out for any of your gift ideas for your Bridesmaids or your family. It might be too expensive for favors in your wedding but for smaller weddings, it might be a perfect favor idea.

The store has been open about 2 years now in Red Bank and the owners are extremely nice and very knowledgeable. They recently launched a website where you can even order all of this online.

If you love oil and vinegar like Michelle and I do, then you have must visit this store next time you are in Red Bank.

The Newlywed Game

I received this email from Embassy Row Productions who produces many well known television shows. I thought our newlyweds might be interested in this!

Where Was This When I Was Getting Married?

As a recent Bride myself, I know what it is like to afford a wedding. We are always looking for a good deal to save ourselves some money. When shopping for your wedding it never fails that when you go into some of these bridal stores or any store that has the word "bridal" attached to it, the price is mysteriously higher!

Michael and I were recently in Red Bank, NJ doing some Christmas shopping when I found a beautiful little jewelry shop. The front of the shop has a lot of "fun" jewelry but in the back of the store, they have a large selection of Bridal Jewelry and other Bridal accessories! From veils to shoes to jewelry, that had a very large selection. The prices are very reasonable too. I bought a great bracelet as a gift for $14 and later that day saw something very similar in Macy's for $23.00. I love a good deal!

I wish I had been here before my wedding. I definitely would have bought a bunch of jewelry for my own wedding since the prices are so reasonable. I could go even as far as saying "what a deal!" I love it when I find good deals since I am definitely a bargain shopper. For those ladies out there who love deals, you understand what I am saying!

This store is just so adorable. I bought my bridesmaids jewelry as a gift in New York City but could easily have got better deals here. In the very least, if you are in the Red Bank area, it might help to give you more ideas too.

Quick Trip to Germany

Michelle and I LOVE to travel. We try to take at least 2 trips a year if we can find the time and money to do it. For years we have been trying to take an early December trip to Germany to visit the original Christmas markets they are so known for. Well this year we were able to do it! We flew to Berlin (8 hours) and then hopped on an Intercity train to Frankfurt (5 hours). It took almost 15 hours after all the waiting to get to Frankfurt but we made it.

We used Frankfurt as our home base for three nights. The first evening we arrived we visited the Frankfurt Christmas market. The next day we took a train to Nuremberg who claims to have the largest and most known Christmas Market. It was beautiful but we still liked the big city market of Frankfurt better.

While in Nuremberg, we visited the Nazi Documentation Center Museum. It was a great museum that tries to explain how and why the Socialist party came to power. This was also the site of the largest marches, the ones you have probably seen in movies, etc.. After a full day in Nuremberg, we could hardly keep our eyes open for the 2 hour train ride back to Frankfurt.

The last full day we had in Germany, we made a visit to Cologne. Cologne is home to largest Cathedral in Europe. It was amazing!! Absolutely breathtaking. We took a walking tour thanks to Rick Steves of the inside of the church and then spent some time in the Cologne Christmas Market. After a 1 hour train ride back to Frankfurt, we spent the evening at the Frankfurt Christmas market again.

After lots of Gluhwein, Hot Apple Cider, Schnitzel, Sausages, Sauerkraut, potatoes, and pretzels, we are stuffed and ready to come home. We had lots of fun, here are some pictures.

Bluray Purchase

Since upgrading our whole office to High Definition and Bluray in the beginning of the year, we have been holding out on purchasing a Bluray player. The prices were steep and the selection was limited. However, since the holiday season and the economy has caused many companies to slash prices and so many new players are out, great deals are all over the place for Bluray players. We have seen prices as low as $160 and as high as $600. We recently purchased the Samsung Bluray player from Best buy for $180! A phenomenal price and after hooking it up to our TV, we put the old standard def DVD player in the basement to collect dust.

The new player will play your old movies and new HD movies too. It is compatible with our Bluray discs and can even be hooked up to the internet to download movies from netflix, etc.. I wish we had more time to watch movies now! If you are planning to purchase a DVD player, bring along one of our disc to make sure it is compatible with the player you plan to purchase too.

10/4/2008 Wedding "Thank You"

Mary Ellen and Rob had a gorgeous wedding and took us to some amazing places for pictures. If you have ever seen the movie "Anne" and had wished you lived in that huge mansion, then you are not alone. We got an opportunity to spend an hour with Mary Ellen and Rob in the mansion where they filmed parts of that movie on the campus of Monmouth University. The surrounding grounds were phenomenal as well!

Recently, Mary Ellen and Rob came by our home to film their thank you video segment (picture above). They have decided to send this separate video to all of their bridesmaids and groomsmen as a very special thank you for taking the time to be such a special part of their wedding day. We include up to two video segments of your choice on the film plus the extra thank you that we film after the wedding. "ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE VIDEO!!!! the video is just wonderful. We love it so much. we wanted to watch it again and again!! You really captured everything that we would have like to see (and that we missed during the big day)! The music was beautiful and perfectly set. We really liked the bloopers too - there were some cute scenes
that we never would have seen. That was such a nice touch. we are so glad that we went with the HD. We could see all the details and the colors. It just made the video that much more special. The video was really great and it was edited so wonderfully. Thank you so much. We really do love it. It brought back so many great memories since the day flew by.... :)

I really liked how the music would flow in and out and how the voices came over some of the video. It really added to the video. The guys section (Reservious Dogs) was too funny. We could not stop laughing at that. I am so glad that I
found you on the wedding website! It was random but well worth it. You really did a fabulous job.

You kept me calm during the whole day and no one even knew you were there. You really hide behind the scenes and captured so much. A special thank you to Michelle for helping me out in the beginning with walking me through what I should be doing since I had no clue and for helping me get those outside shots (at the reception)that I really wanted.

And finally, thank you for braving the tropical storm to capture all these special moments! It was tough out there in the pouring rain but you actually got the nice outside shots before the rain really came down!
